Free Resources for your Courses: How do I get started?

Bringing it all together

Step 1 - Chat with your liaison librarian

Step 2 - Decide where you want to store all the links to your resources

First you need to ask yourself some important questions:

  • Do you feel confident that you could build a website and maintain it on your own?
    • If no, use Blackboard

  • Will you be scanning print articles or chapters?
    • If yes, use Blackboard.

  • Do you want control over the look and feel of the site?
    • If yes, build a website (but don't forget to link to the site from your Blackboard course).

  • Do you want the course readings to be private?
    • If yes, use Blackboard.

  • Do you want to collaborate with multiple faculty on building the same list?
    • If yes, then maybe you should build a website.

There are many more questions to ask yourself, but these are a good start.

Step 3 - Find your resources and build your list!

This is where all of the work happens. As you come across articles or videos you want to use, just add them to your list. You can update the list throughout the semester or whenever necessary. The power is in your hands!
