Using AI in your Writing

In accordance with the Academic Integrity Policy, it is not acceptable to use Generative AI to generate content for your assessments/school work and pass it off as your own. When it comes to using AI with your writing it should always be viewed as a tool rather than a replacement of your own writing and voice. AI tools can be used to assist your writing in the following ways:

  • Editing
  • Rephrasing 
  • Suggesting an alternative wording 
  • Grammar assistance 
  • Translating 

Remember you must obtain permission from your instructor before using any GenAI tool in your work

Tell-Tale Signs of AI Generated Text

Generic Style

Repetitive writing style that lacks a unique voice or perspective, and lacks specific details  

Missing Context

Lacks detailed information or a nuanced understanding of your specific topic 

Missing or Fake Sources

Citations are missing or the AI Tool may fabricate (e.g., “hallucinate”) Citations. 

Overuse of Jargon

Overly reliant on certain works that are not commonly used in everyday language  

Inconsistencies

Statements may contradict one another or may be completely unrelated to the topic 

Outdated Information

Information is not always up-to-date and might contain inaccuracies
