FAQs

  1. How do I book a tutoring appointment?

Look for the Learning Centres space on MySeneca. We are found under Student Support, Academic. Once on our page, select the red icon found on the side of the page. This will take you directly into our appointment booking system. You can book appointments six days in advance and up to 30 minutes before an available appointment start time.

  2. Do I have to pay for tutoring?

No. There are no additional fees charged for tutoring or attending any of our workshops.

  3. Are Learning Centre services being offered in-person or online?

We are currently offering most of our services, including tutoring and workshops, both online and in-person at each of our four campuses. When booking your appointment, select the appropriate campus to attend in-person. Be sure to select “Online Learning Centre” if you are wanting an online appointment.

  4. How do I connect with my tutor for my online tutoring session?

If you have booked an online tutoring appointment, the link to your session will be included in the confirmation email you will receive at the time of booking.

Additionally, all of your upcoming appointments will appear on the homepage when you open our booking system. If you have booked an online session, one hour before your scheduled appointment you will see a ‘JOIN SESSION’ button appear. Click on this active link at the start time of your scheduled appointment time.

In-person appointments take place within the Learning Centre at the campus that you chose when booking your appointment.

  5. What platform does Seneca Learning Centres use for online tutoring and workshops? What do I need to join?

The Learning Centre is using Zoom for all online tutoring and workshops. All employees and registered students have access to Zoom. It is okay if you do not have Zoom installed on your computer. Simply click the Join Session button that appears next to your appointment on the booking homepage to launch the meeting. You will need a microphone and speakers to join a session. We encourage you to use a camera if you are comfortable doing so. Most students and tutors find the sessions more helpful if they keep their cameras on so they can engage face-to-face.

  6. What should I do if I experience difficulties accessing my online tutoring session?

Don’t panic, your tutor will wait for you. First, try launching your session from a different browser. If that doesn’t work, you may need to reboot your computer. Please remember to test your computer prior to your online session to ensure your microphone and speakers are working.

  7. What should I prepare for my tutoring session?

Take the time to review your textbook, readings and notes from class. Determine where the gaps are in your understanding or where you need extra direction and guidance. You will want to focus on that during your tutoring session. Bringing the relevant materials and your questions to your tutoring session will make it most productive.

  8. How do I cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Access the booking system just like you did when you booked your appointment. You will see an option there to reschedule your appointment. Follow the steps as prompted. You can cancel/reschedule appointments up to 3 hours before your originally scheduled appointment time.

  9. I am getting an error message that says I am no longer able to book appointments. What is wrong?

You may have cancelled too many appointments or not shown up to your scheduled appointments. You will be prevented from booking appointments for up to six days. You will be automatically reinstated.

  10. What happens if I miss my appointment?

We understand that things happen and sometimes we cannot keep our commitments. Having said that, when you miss an appointment, we have a tutor sitting idly while another student probably needs their help. Do your best to cancel your appointments in a timely way to give others a chance. If you miss too many appointments, you will be locked out of the system and will not have access to book an appointment for one week.

  11. How can I see what appointments I have already booked with the Learning Centre?

When you launch our online booking system, by selecting the red icon on our MySeneca space, any upcoming appointments will be listed right on the homepage.

  12. Is there a maximum number of tutoring appointments I can book?

You are able to book up to 3 one-hour tutoring appointments per week. Two of these can be for the same subject or with the same tutor. You are able to book your appointments up to six days in advance.

  13. What do I do if I do not see my course listed for support?

Different courses are best supported through different services found in the Learning Centre. Be sure to check our peer tutoring, workshop and SLG listings to see if the help you are looking for is found there. If you still do not see the course you want help for, please contact us, either using our chat box located on our home page or accessing us through our Staff Directory. We will do our best to find you the help that you need.
