 What is Systems Thinking?

"Systems thinking is concerned with expanding our awareness to see the relationships between parts and wholes rather than looking at just discrete, isolated parts ... [Sustainability and systems thinking] go hand-in-hand. A sustainable community is one whose actions don’t diminish the social opportunities and ecosystem health for future generations while being resilient against social and ecological shocks or changes. This requires looking far into the future, thinking beyond ourselves about the greater collective, and looking deeper below the surface to understand how things really work" (Stanford MAHB).
