Searching a Business Database

Searching directly in a database will give you the greatest ability to customize and refine the search.

For example, to find articles from Canadian newspapers, use the Canadian Newsstream database. Canadian Newsstream provides access to more than 190 full-text Canadian newspapers from Canada's leading publishers, including the Globe and Mail and the Toronto Star.

Other databases that include newspapers, as well as magazines and other types of resources, are Canadian Business & Current Affairs, and ABI/INFORM Collection.

Finding Business Articles in a Database (Step by Step)

Browse the text, or look through the index or table of contents for ideas

  • Start at Seneca Libraries: https://library.senecapolytechnic.ca
  • Click on the Subject Guides button
  • Choose the Business subject guide: https://library.senecapolytechnic.ca/business
  • Click on one of the key business databases (e.g. ABI/INFORM, Canadian Business and Current Affairs, or Canadian Newsstream)

Type keywords on your business topic (e.g. corporate culture)

  • Check the box beside Full Text
  • Choose a publication date range
  • Click Search
  • Consider further narrowing your search by source type (e.g. newspaper or magazine article)
  • To bring more relevant results to the top of the list, sort search results by Relevance

  • Click on the title of one of the current, relevant articles on your topic
  • Read the article
  • Save, print or email the article
