Videos can be valuable sources for finding information on art, receiving instructions on technique, and accessing sources for reference. Check out the recommended databases listed below for streamed video content, as well as the videos selected by Seneca librarians.

No Straight Lines: The Rise of Queer Comics
No Straight Lines tells the story of five scrappy and pioneering cartoonists who depicted everything from the AIDS crisis, coming out, and same-sex marriage, to themes of race, gender, and disability. They tackled the humor in queer lives in a changing world, and the everyday pursuits of love, sex, and community. Their work is funny, smart, and profound, and provides a unique, uncensored window into LGBTQ lives from the 1970s onward, beginning at a time in which there was no other genuine queer storytelling in popular culture. Equally engaging are their personal journeys, as they, against all odds, helped build a queer comics underground that has been able to grow and evolve in remarkable ways.

Manga World
Filmed in Japan, this program pushes beyond the stereotypes to objectively examine the history of manga, how manga are drawn, and manga's influence on Japanese life as illustrated by cosplay bars, where people dress up as their favorite characters; manga kissa, 24/7 manga cafes; and Comicket, the twice-annual comics market that draws hundreds of thousands of visitors.
Visual Literacy
This video helps viewers recognize artworks by media and techniques, and identify characteristics of work within key cultural and historical periods as well as styles, movements, and periods within the art world. The program also reveals how artists and art historians use floor plans, elevation drawings, and other visual tools.
