If you can't find your substance in any of the library tools listed above, try the following websites, which feature powerful keyword search capabilities that allow for the matching of antiquated terms with modern accepted terms and registered numbers. ChemIDplus Provides access to the structure and nomenclature authority files used for the identification of chemical substances cited in National Library of Medicine databases. Includes more than 400,000 chemical records, 300,000 with chemical structures.
ChemSpider A free chemical structure database created by the Royal Society of Chemistry..
Compendium of Chemical Technology Produced by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, the Compendium (otherwise known as the Gold Book) offers internationally accepted definitions of chemistry terms, symbols and units.
NIST Chemistry WebBook A free database by the National Institute of Standards and Technology that provides chemical and physical property data on a large number of compounds.
MatWeb, The Online Materials Information Resource Searchable database of over 140,000 engineering materials including polymers, metals and ceramics.
PubChem An open chemistry database at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Individuals can put their scientific data in PubChem for others to use.
